12 Pillars of Scouting

"HALL OF LEADERSHIP" RECOGNIZES THE BEST OF LOCAL SCOUTING COMMUNITY

Leaders are those who see possibilities and inspire others to see them too. Over the past century, Scouting leaders have inspired millions of Americans to dream more, do more, and become more. They have shaped our nation's youth by modeling Scouting virtues.

The "Hall of Leadership" program is designed to award local scouting supporters and organizations that best represent and exemplify the 12 points of the Scout Law:

"A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

This is a national program with local representatives and gives us the opportunity to recognize the Scouting community both here and across the country.

How it works:
An honoree has been selected to represent each of the 12 points. They will be announced one at a time in order to build excitement throughout the year. One honoree will be honored each month. They will be contacted by a Council representative and informed of their selection.

The honorees will be interviewed by local TV personality Kent Bates, and the interview will be featured on this website each month, so check back periodically as we announce the list. The interview will explore who they are, their experience in scouting and their personal perspective on the individual aspect of the Scout Law that they are representing.

Each winner will be awarded a commemorative, custom commissioned piece created by famous NC artist, Bob Timberlake. The award ceremony will be at various locations throughout the community, based on input by the recipient.

The first award will be given out in January, 2010, and will run for 12 consecutive months.

The National Hall Of Leadership:
Two of the twelve local candidates will also be nominated for National Hall Of Leadership early in 2010. The National Council will decide and announce their honorees at the BSA National Annual Meeting in Dallas in May 2010. We anticipate being in strong contention for national recognition, so look out for the announcement in the Summer.

Our country will never outgrow the need for thoughtful leadership. And, so it will never outgrow the need for those dedicated individuals who live their lives by the Scout Law and teach others to do the same.
